TIE-DYE & HAND-DYEING WEEKEND INTENSIVE

February 16 - 17

In this fun-filled weekend intensive, I will teach you the basic procedures for dyeing with Procion dyes, by immersion and direct dye methods, with both cellulose and protein fibers. You will learn various tying, dying and shibori techniques, as well as basic color theory and design concepts for dying. It will be fun, and colorful and bright! Discover the dyer in you and design your own dye patterns! Students will focus on swatches to perfect technique and in the last class work on individual projects.

COLOR THEORY WORKSHOP

February 12 - March 5

In this 4 week class students of all levels will gain confidence using Procion (fiber reactive) dyes with all the color options they have to offer! Like other media, dyes also have their own color theory concepts. This class will take students through immersion dyeing, direct application, tie-dye, hand painting, and basics on dyes, chemicals and additives while focusing on how to mix and blend colors to get your desired affects. All lessons will be learned through fun projects that students can take home with them. This is the perfect class for those working in design who want more conceptual tools under their belt, as well as helpful for silkscreeners and painters who want more control over their colors and materials.

SHIBORI "ITAJIME" FOLD & DYE TECHNIQUES

March 23 - 24

Learn the process of Itajime Dyeing in this two-day workshop. You will learn the basic procedures for dyeing with Procion dyes, as well as discover the endless possibilities that this shibori fold and clamp technique provides. The focus will be on making a set of one-of-a-kind napkins, while learning various tie-dye and shibori "Itajime" Fold and Dye techniques. The second day will focus on advanced techniques and personal projects, and students are encouraged to bring their own garments.

The Textile Art Center's series of Friday After Workshops allows participants to enjoy an evening of hands-on learning and fun, at low cost and commitment. Did I mention it's BYOB?! In this Friday After Workshop students will learn the very basics of synthetic dyes and tie dyeing techniques using fiber reactive dyes (procion).

This is an affordable version of Shabd's sought-after 4 week class, condensed into a seminar format.

Please bring your own garments or fabric to dye, 1 piece for free with the class. You are welcome to keep dyeing at the 4pm party for a discounted rate of $10 per additional garment.

No experience necessary. Classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime! All necessary materials are included for swatch making. Any additional fabrics and materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision. Also, we have Open Studio time for students to put their new knowledge to practice.

The Textile Arts Center is a beautiful 3200sf space in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens dedicated to providing support to fiber artists and everyday people interested in working with fibers. TAC holds classes, workshops and special events as well as running open studio hours, hosting gallery exhibits and running an artist in residency program.
